Discussion with Principal Lalljeet who is in agreement.
Here’s a concept for a 50th Anniversary Monument for a High School:
Design Overview
Structure: A modern yet timeless design featuring a central pillar or obelisk made of polished stone or metal, standing about 8-10 feet tall. The monument would sit on a circular base with inscribed plaques or panels.
Key Features
1.Central Pillar/Obelisk:
Material: Granite or stainless steel.
Top Element: A symbolic feature, such as an open book, a torch, or a globe, representing knowledge and growth.
2. Engraved School Crest and Motto:
Positioned prominently on the front face of the pillar.
Below the crest, include the school’s founding date and the phrase: “Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in Education (1974–2024)” (or the relevant years).
3. Historical Timeline Panels:
Surround the base of the pillar with engraved panels that chronicle the school’s history:
Founding and early years.
Milestones (e.g., major expansions, notable alumni, awards).
A “vision for the future” section.
4. Community and Alumni Recognition:
A section dedicated to the names of key contributors: founders, principals, teachers, and notable alumni.
Optionally, a QR code linking to a digital archive of the school’s history.
5. Landscaping and Seating Area:
A circular paved area around the monument with benches for visitors.
Flower beds or small trees to make it a peaceful spot for reflection.
6. Lighting and Accessibility:
Soft lighting to highlight the monument at night.
A paved pathway for accessibility.
Discussion and permission will continue with the school and the Ministry of Education. Cost will be sponsored by donation from Alumni and businesses on the Essequibo Coast and in the Region. Optimistically a budget of 2 million GYD is estimated.
Once the necessary permission is obtained, a design competition will be held.
A committee will be nominated to complete plans and the event.
Will be done within the Anniversary year 2025.
Planning, details will follow. Requesting volunteers to be on the project committee.
Permission and approval to be obtained from the principal and Ministry of Education.
